The Academy of Management’s Technology & Innovation Management (TIM) division is pleased to present Professor Paula Stephan with a lifetime achievement award in recognition of her many intellectual contributions to the study of technological innovation, her extraordinary record of mentorship and equally impressive record of institution building.
This video honors Paula Stephan’s significant contributions to the study of technological innovation, her remarkable mentorship, and her equally outstanding achievements in institution building.
The TIM Division was formed in 1987 and now has over 3000 active members. Our division celebrates excellence in research, teaching, and service by conferring a variety of awards. These include the best student paper, the best dissertation, and the best paper presented at the annual meeting. We also provide awards for the best reviewers who assist with the paper submission for the annual meeting. Annually, we also honor emerging scholars with a young scholar award. We also have a Distinguished scholar award for senior scholars.
The TIM Exec committee voted to create a lifetime achievement award at our January 2025 meeting. To span the range and depth of Professor Stephan’s innumerable accomplishments, the committee convened a group of distinguished speakers tasked to discuss either a specific intellectual contribution made by Professor Stephan or her contribution as a mentor and institution builder. The list includes:
Chiara Franzoni, Michele Pezzoni, Richard Freeman, Grant Black, Jian Wang, Marie Thursby, David Audretsch, Anne Winkler, Henry Sauermann, Reinhilde Veugelers, Adam Jaffe, Mary Frank Fox, Donna Ginther, Wes Cohen, Shiferaw Gurmu, Agnes Benessy-Quere, Stijn Kelchtermans, Fabiana Visentin, Annamaria Conti, Albert Sumell.
We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful contributions of Arvids Ziedonis who produced this genius video.
Thank you, Professor Stephan for your contributions!
