    Dear colleagues,

We invite you to participate in the workshop "Markets for Technology in a Fragmented Geo-Economic Landscape" at the 46th Strategic Management Society Annual Conference in Berlin.

    Date and time: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Heightened geopolitical tensions, industrial policy, and national security restrictions are reshaping how firms develop, commercialize, and transfer technology. This workshop will bring together scholars interested in how geo-economic fragmentation affects markets for technology, including technology licensing, cross-border M&A, strategic alliances, entrepreneurial finance, technology standards, and R&D investment.

The workshop will consist of two parts:

    1. Panel discussion: Leading scholars will offer perspectives on how geopolitical and policy changes are transforming markets for technology and what these developments imply for strategy, innovation, and theories of the firm.

    2. Research roundtables: Participants will discuss ongoing projects and receive feedback in small, thematically organized groups.

    The panelists are:

    • Bruno Cassiman, KU Leuven
    • Raffaele Conti, ESSEC Business School
    • Kenneth Huang, National University of Singapore
    • Nan Jia, University of Southern California
    • Catherine Magelssen, University of South Carolina

The workshop is co-organized and will be facilitated by George Chondrakis, Esade Business School, and Marco Testoni, University of Miami Herbert Business School.

Attendance is open to all registered SMS conference participants. Those wishing to discuss a project and receive feedback during the research roundtables should submit an extended abstract or a one- to two-page description of a research idea related to the workshop theme and an updated CV.

    Application deadline: July 27th

    Submission instructions: https://sms.submittable.com/submit/d435c9b0-e702-436f-95d9-b83b33716e46/sms-berlin-saturday-afternoon-workshop-applications
