Dear colleagues:
Please join us for a presenter symposium on "Safety, Scrutiny, and Substitution: Innovation Under Transparency and Liability" at AOM 2026!
As technologies become embedded in critical sectors like healthcare, energy, chemicals, and digital systems, firms are increasingly judged not only by what they create, but by how they manage risk, accountability, and societal expectations.
The symposium brings together new research on how safety-related scrutiny reshapes innovation through disclosure, liability, legitimacy, NGO pressure, supply-chain relationships, and regulation. Across settings from medical devices and hazardous chemicals to CAR-T therapy, green supply chains, and regulatory text, the papers show that scrutiny does not simply slow or accelerate innovation-it redirects technological trajectories.
