The attention-based view of the firm (ABV) has risen in prominence within the strategic management domain to be one of the central behavioral theories explaining how organizations behave and ultimately perform. However, with the emergence of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, there are major implications for both how the limitations of organizational attention may be lowered or even eliminated and how such technologies may shape patterns of managerial attention such that different organizational behaviors are subsequently engendered. In this panel symposium, we propose to examine the current state of work on organizational attention, drawing from recent research examining this topic. We then seek to examine the implications of technologies such as artificial intelligence on organizational attention and how such technologies may require us to revisit existing theories of organizational attention and managerial cognition. Finally, realizing that technologies such as artificial intelligence can be leveraged as tools for studying different facets of organizational attention, we will focus on opportunities to leverage such technologies to examine important topics pertaining to organizational attention.
