Showcase Symposium: Rethinking Management Theories in the Age of AI

The Academy of Management's 2026 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia will feature a Showcase Symposium (Session 10188) examining one of the field's most pressing questions: how should management theory evolve as artificial intelligence becomes an active participant in organizational life?

The panel will address three guiding questions: where and how existing theories must be adjusted, rethought, or reinvented in light of AI; how core assumptions and boundary conditions shift as AI moves from being merely a new context to reshaping the phenomena themselves; and how theories originally designed around human interaction hold up when non-human agents become active participants in organizational processes.

The panel brings together a distinguished group of scholars: Jay Barney (University of Utah), Ann-Katrin Eicke (LMU Munich), Satish Nambisan (Case Western Reserve University), Judy Rady (University of Kansas), and Monideepa Tarafdar (UMass Amherst).

The session is organized by Nicolai Fabian (University of Groningen), Yannik Gehrke (University of Hamburg), Marvin Hanisch (University of Groningen), and Michelle Weck (University of Mainz).

    🗓️ When: August 4, 2026, 1:15 – 2:45 PM
📍 Where: Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Level 4, Franklin 9

AOM participants with an interest in AI and organization theory are encouraged to attend and take part in the discussion.
